The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced it has achieved its mid-year target for tax collection in 2024. This accomplishment includes exceeding their goal of registering 600 businesses for VAT digitally.

GRA Board Chairman Joe Ghartey shared this news during a meeting with the Methodist Church Ghana leadership.

He acknowledged the initial challenges faced in the first quarter but emphasized the importance of domestic revenue generation.

“We cannot solely rely on loans and grants for development,” Ghartey stressed. “Tax revenue allows us to hold our government accountable.”

The meeting also saw a call to action from the Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo. He urged church members to fulfill their civic duty by paying taxes, and pledged to leverage the church platform to educate members on tax obligations.

GRA Commissioner General Julie Essiam expressed optimism about exceeding the annual target, citing the new board and management team.
