“Bawumia Urges Police Personnel to Remain Professional During Election 2024”

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged personnel of the Ghana Police Service to continue to be professional as the nation heads to the general elections. He made this statement when he addressed personnel of the Ghana Police Service in Accra on July 17.

Dr. Bawumia recounted the immense contributions of the Ghana Police Service to fostering peace in the country. He emphasized the role of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, in transforming the Ghana Police Service.

The Vice President called for more sacrifices from personnel of the Service, stating that the people of Ghana have witnessed a significant transformation of the Police Service under the current administration. He highlighted the community and stakeholder engagement, enhanced intelligence operations, and ensured a more responsive preparation, especially in the general elections.

The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, cautioned those who issue threats on social media in an attempt to destabilize the upcoming elections to stop it. He warned that anyone who makes a threatening statement to incite violence before, during, and after the elections will face the law.

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, assured of the commitment of the Police Service to ensuring peaceful elections. He stated that the Police Service will work with all security agencies to ensure that this year’s elections are peaceful.

Dr. Dampare emphasized that the country will continually be seen as a trailblazer, and the rest of the continent will know that Ghana is a peaceful country. He assured that the Police Service will go all out to ensure there is peace during the elections.

Later, Dr. Bawumia commissioned the Ghana Police Shop. The shop is dedicated to providing police officers with uniforms and other accoutrements. The Vice President lauded the Ghana Police Service for this initiative, stating that it will ensure officers always come out smart in their uniforms.

The Police Shop will provide adequate services to all officers across the country, and police officers are expected to patronize the shop for their uniforms and other logistics. Dr. Bawumia stated that this will ensure that officers always come out smart in their uniforms and procure additional logistics to deliver on their mandate.
