President Akufo-Addo: My Administration Has Built More Roads Than Mills and Mahama Combined

President Akufo-Addo has made a bold claim about his administration’s road construction achievements. Speaking at the sod-cutting event for the Anwiankwanta-Ahenema Kokoben Road dualization on Monday, July 15, the President stated that his administration has constructed more roads than the combined road infrastructure achievements of the Mills/Mahama era.

According to President Akufo-Addo, his administration has completed 12,830 kilometers of roads since 2017. This, he noted, is a stark contrast to the 4,636 kilometers achieved from 2009 to 2016. The President highlighted the extensive roadworks undertaken by his administration, including asphalt overlays, new constructions, bridges, and ongoing interchange projects.

The President emphasized that the progress made in road infrastructure development sets a high standard and serves as a blueprint for what can be achieved with dedication and strategic planning. He stressed that successive governments must ensure sustained investment in infrastructure to address the road deficit and meet the evolving needs of Ghana’s rapidly growing population.

In the Ashanti Region, the President detailed the various types of roadworks undertaken, including asphalt overlays, new constructions, graveling/re-graveling, reconstructions, rehabilitations, and the construction of two bridges at Susanso-Anloga and Kokoso-Bohyen.

President Akufo-Addo also assured that contractors working on the Suame interchange project will complete the first phase by the end of 2024. He revealed that work has also started on the main interchange project and assured of his government’s commitment to the timely completion of the entire project.

The President’s assurance comes after persistent complaints by motorists on the stretch. He reiterated that the Akufo-Addo government remains focused on its commitment to dualizing roads in densely populated areas along major corridors. This, he explained, is a key initiative to demonstrate the government’s dedication to decongesting vital regions.

The President highlighted strategic projects such as the dualization of the Ofankor-Nsawam road and the Adenta road, which are not merely infrastructure projects but also a confirmation of the government’s approach to solving real-life challenges.

Government is committed to replicating such successful initiatives along other corridors of the region, such as Suame Roundabout to Tafo-Pankrono. Another important project in the region is the construction of the Suame Interchange, which is progressing steadily.

The President noted that the overpass on the Offinso road, Anomangye-Magazine road, Abusuakurowa, as well as 15 kilometers of the road around Suame roundabout, are some 40% complete. He assured that these overpasses will be successfully completed before the end of this year.

President Akufo-Addo’s administration has made significant strides in road infrastructure development, surpassing the achievements of previous administrations. The President’s commitment to sustaining investment in infrastructure and addressing the road deficit is a testament to his government’s dedication to meeting the evolving needs of Ghana’s growing population.
