Colombian Football Chief and Son Arrested After Brawl At Copa América Final

Chaos erupted after the Copa América final in Miami, with Colombian Football Federation president Ramón Jesurún (71) and his son Ramón Jamil Jesurún (43) arrested for assaulting security personnel.

The incident occurred following Colombia’s heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Argentina in extra time.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Jesurúns became irate and verbally aggressive towards a security guard who was instructed to hold them back from entering the field.

Things escalated quickly. Police reports detail Ramón Jamil Jesurún grabbing the security guard’s neck, throwing him to the ground, and punching and kicking him in the head.

He is also accused of assaulting a female security official who attempted to intervene. Both Jesurún and his son are also reported to have punched a security manager.

The motive behind their actions remains unclear, but speculation suggests they may have been attempting to access the field to participate in the post-match award ceremony.

The Colombian Football Federation has yet to comment on the situation.

This incident adds to the turmoil surrounding the Copa América final, which was already marred by an 80-minute delay due to ticketless fans forcing entry into the stadium and clashes with security.
