Former National Chair of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu, believes that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s comparison between Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and President Akufo-Addo will not significantly affect the NPP’s chances in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Mac Manu emphasized that there is ample time for the party to address any fallout from NAPO’s comments before Election Day.

In an interview Mac Manu dismissed the comparison as an unnecessary distraction, asserting that the NPP’s focus should remain on their main political rival, the NDC. He expressed confidence that the party’s extensive preparation and strong support base will carry them through the elections successfully.

Mac Manu acknowledged that political gaffes are not uncommon but stressed that the electoral contest is primarily between the NPP and the NDC, urging that discussions around Nkrumah and the CPP be put to rest. He underscored that NAPO had apologized for his remarks, clarifying that they were not intended to disparage Ghana’s former leaders.

Overall, Mac Manu reiterated that the NPP remains undeterred and well-positioned for the upcoming electoral battle, despite the controversy sparked by NAPO’s comments.
