A private legal practitioner in the Manhyia South Constituency of the governing New Patriotic Party, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has emerged victorious in the party’s parliamentary primary.
He surpassed his closest contender, Nana Owusu Prempeh, brother to the outgoing MP, who received 141 votes.
The primary, held on Sunday, July 14, saw two other contestants, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi and James Owusu, receive 2 and 7 votes respectively.
This election follows the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the incumbent MP, as the NPP’s vice presidential candidate.
Manhyia South, a stronghold of the NPP, anticipates Awuah’s nomination will lead to a successful bid in the upcoming by-election to replace Dr. Opoku Prempeh.
