Charterhouse, the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, has announced its plans to establish a Hall of Fame for the Ghanaian music industry. The announcement was made by CEO Theresah Ayoade at the TGMA Industry Mixer on July 13, 2024, at the Palm Convention Centre in Accra.
According to Ayoade, the idea was conceived 25 years ago when the award scheme was launched. The goal is to archive Ghana’s music history and heritage, making it accessible to the public, researchers, musicologists, students, and tourists.
To achieve this, Charterhouse is seeking to gather data, exhibits, relics, and memorabilia on music personalities, events, and activities over the years. Ayoade appealed to industry stakeholders and individuals to contribute items to the project.
The company is collaborating with curators, UNESCO, and the National Museum to establish the Hall of Fame. A space has been donated by the National Museum, and renovations are set to begin soon. A fundraising campaign will be launched to support the project, with a target opening date of December 2024.
The project will be implemented in three phases: data and exhibit collection, renovation and furnishing of the space, and the official opening of the museum.
