A recent poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed a significant decline in voter support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region. The poll was conducted after Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as ‘NAPO,’ was selected as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The results showed a major decline in six major constituencies in Greater Accra, including Tema Central, Ablekuma West, Ablekuma North, Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso West Wuogon, and Ledzokuku. According to the poll, 42% of NPP voters indicated that they would not vote for the party due to NAPO’s nomination.

In contrast, 49% of voters remained committed to voting for the party. Mussa Dankwa, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, discussed the findings on Channel One TV’s ‘Citiuation Room,’ highlighting this as a challenge for the party and urging them to address it.

The poll also revealed that among floating voters, who are crucial in determining election outcomes in Ghana, a significant 74% said they are less likely to vote for the NPP due to NAPO’s candidacy. Only 9% of floating voters indicated that they would still consider voting for the party.

Dankwa noted that the findings are worrying for the NPP, stating that if they don’t make a good impression among floating voters, they risk losing the election. The poll’s results suggest that the NPP needs to address the concerns of its voters and work to win over floating voters in order to secure victory in the upcoming election.
