Kumasi Public Toilet Fees Increase by 25% Amid Rising Operational Costs
- The increase is due to rising operational costs
- The new fees are higher depending on the facility
- The Association says the higher fees are necessary to maintain service quality
The Kumasi Sanitation Awareness Association, based in the Ashanti Region, has implemented a 25% price hike for public toilet and urinal facilities across the Kumasi metropolis.
Previously, facilities using toilet rolls were priced at GH₵ 1.50, which has now been adjusted to GH₵ 2.00. Similarly, costs for toilet paper facilities have risen from GH₵ 1.30 to GH₵ 1.50.
Mr. Owusu Takyi, Chairman of the Association, attributed the fee increase to escalating prices of goods and services.
He cited a rise in dislodging costs from GHS 800 to GHS 1,200, along with increased expenses for maintenance, electricity, and water bills.
Mr. Takyi emphasized that the adjustment was essential to sustain the Association’s operations and enhance service standards. Despite initial user concerns, he noted that understanding has grown regarding the necessity of the price adjustment to maintain service quality and operational viability.
