Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs Vows to Clamp Down on Impostor Chiefs

The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs has sounded a warning to individuals who illegitimately declare themselves as chiefs, pledging to take decisive action against such perpetrators. The traditional leaders expressed grave concern over the actions of some divisional chiefs and priests who have been creating new stools and administering oaths of allegiance to unauthorized individuals, thereby fostering chaos in the region.

During a visit from the Greater Accra Regional Security Council, the Acting President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, reaffirmed the commitment of the traditional leaders to addressing this issue. “As a house and fathers of the land, we have encountered a situation where some individual chiefs arrogate onto themselves powers they do not have authority over,” he stated.

Professor Welentsi III cited examples of divisional chiefs and priests creating new stools and taking oaths of allegiance from ignorant individuals who claim to be chiefs. He also condemned the practice of some individuals preventing paramount chiefs from ascending to their thrones, often under the guise of being an acting president. “These acts have gone unchecked for a while, but trust me, these acts of lawlessness will be rooted out by the Regional House of Chiefs,” he assured.
