President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Abu Jinapor, and Minister of State at the Energy Ministry Herbert Krapa to work closely with the outgoing Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to ensure a seamless transition at the Ministry.
This comes after President Akufo-Addo accepted Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation as Energy Minister, effective July 18, 2024, to focus on his new role as Vice-Presidential Candidate and Running Mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his dedicated service to the government and the people of Ghana, highlighting his stellar record of accomplishments in the education and energy sectors. To ensure continuity, President Akufo-Addo has tasked Abu Jinapor with exercising Cabinet oversight responsibility over the Ministry of Energy, while Herbert Krapa will handle the day-to-day administration of the Ministry.
The President has emphasized the importance of a smooth transition and directed Jinapor and Krapa to liaise closely with Dr. Opoku Prempeh to achieve this goal. Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation follows his selection as the Vice-Presidential Candidate and Running Mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
President Akufo-Addo has wished Dr. Opoku Prempeh well in his new role, confident that he will continue to serve the party and the nation with distinction. The transition process is expected to be seamless, with Jinapor and Krapa working closely with Dr. Opoku Prempeh to ensure that the Ministry’s affairs are handled efficiently.
The President’s directive ensures that the Ministry’s operations will continue uninterrupted, with a focus on maintaining the progress made in the energy sector under Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s leadership. The transition is expected to be smooth, with the new team building on the achievements of the outgoing Minister to drive the energy sector forward.
