“Speaker Bagbin and Top Military Officials Summoned to Testify in Jakpa’s Ambulance Trial”
- Jakpa subpoenas Bagbin and Segbefia to testify.
- Top military officials also subpoenaed to testify.
- Case adjourned to July 18 for witnesses to testify.
- Jakpa's defense team builds strong case with key witnesses.
Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing Ambulance case, has taken a significant step in his defense by filing processes to compel key witnesses to testify in the trial. These witnesses include two former Health Ministers, Alban Bagbin and Alex Segbefia, as well as high-ranking military officials, Chief of Defence Staff Lt. General Oppong Peprah and Military Secretary Air Commodore Adu Gyamfi.
Jakpa has completed his testimony and has been directed by the court to call his witnesses. He has notified the court that he intends to call eight witnesses, some of whom will be subpoenaed. The subpoenaed witnesses include Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and former Health Minister Alex Segbefia, who are expected to provide crucial testimony in the case.
However, the judge noted that the subpoena request did not include a request for specific documents that the witnesses should present. On Thursday, Jakpa’s lawyers revealed that Chief of Defence Staff Lt. General Thomas Oppong Peprah and Military Secretary Air Commodore Adu Gyamfi will also be subpoenaed to testify.
The court has adjourned the case to July 18, allowing time for the witnesses to be served with the subpoenas and prepare their testimony. This development suggests that Jakpa’s defense team is building a strong case, leveraging testimony from key figures in the healthcare and military sectors.
The Ambulance case has been closely watched, and this latest development is expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the controversial ambulance contract. As the trial progresses, it remains to be seen how the testimony of these high-profile witnesses will impact the outcome of the case.
