Story Highlights
  • Shatta Wale denies abandoning his ailing mother, claims she neglected him as a child
  • He says his stepmother cared for him and his daughter, not his biological mother
  • Shatta Wale accuses his mother of seeking public sympathy by taking their family issues to social media

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has addressed recent allegations of neglecting his mother, Madam Elsie Evelyn Avemegah, amidst her deteriorating health.

Madam Avemegah had gone public earlier this week, revealing that she had not seen her son for over 10 years and that he had failed to provide for her care despite her desperate circumstances. She noted that she was currently being cared for by relatives who were covering her financial responsibilities.

In response, Shatta Wale stated, “Though I love my mother, I have no obligations whatsoever towards her upkeep.” He alleged that his mother had neglected him during his childhood, and that he was simply “paying her back in her own coin.”

Shatta Wale credited his stepmother with providing stability and support during his early years, noting that she had cared for him and his daughter in a way that his biological mother had not. He expressed frustration that his mother had taken their family matters to social media, which he saw as a ploy to garner public sympathy.

The artiste also expressed concern that his mother had informed relatives about her illness instead of reaching out to him directly. He urged his fans to be discerning about whom they chose to sympathize with, accusing his mother of manipulating the situation to play the victim.
