Kenya’s President, William Ruto, is scheduled to address the nation today, July 11, at 2 p.m. local time (1100 GMT).
Although the topic of the address has not been disclosed, it comes at a time when the country is facing a $2.7 billion budget gap.
The gap is a result of Ruto’s decision to cancel planned tax hikes in response to nationwide protests led by the youth. The protests have created the biggest crisis of his two-year presidency.
Last week, Ruto proposed spending cuts and additional borrowing to bridge the budget gap.
He also hinted at changes in the government, although it remains unclear if these changes will be revealed during his address
