- The CPP called for accountability from political figures
The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has issued a stern demand for an apology from Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following his controversial comparison between President Akufo-Addo and Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
In a statement, the CPP insisted that Dr Opoku Prempeh retract his remarks and issue an immediate apology within 24 hours.
The CPP expressed deep concern over the comments made during Dr Opoku Prempeh’s unveiling ceremony, where he claimed that no president, including Dr Kwame Nkrumah, has contributed more to Ghana’s development than President Akufo-Addo. The party described the comparison as disrespectful to Ghana’s history and called for swift action to rectify the situation.
Furthermore, the CPP warned of potential public outcry if their demands are not met promptly, stating that failure to apologize could lead to widespread protests. The party emphasized the importance of maintaining the country’s political and economic stability during this crucial election period.
In closing, the CPP urged Dr Opoku Prempeh to act responsibly and consider the consequences of his statements on national unity and historical legacy. They underscored the need for political leaders to uphold respect for Ghana’s past and present leaders alike.
