Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has been included in the Creative Arts and Design subject of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The exam question, 5(c) in Section B, asks students to write short notes on any of the following composers: Ephraim Amu, Agya Koo Nimo, or Black Sherif. The question focuses on the composer’s hometown, genre of work, one example of their work, and their contribution to society.
Black Sherif, whose real name is Mohammed Ismail Sherif, is a singer, rapper, and fashion model who rose to fame in 2021 with his song “First Sermon.” He was born and raised in Konongo-Zongo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and attended Konongo Zongo Islamic Basic School and Pinamang Educational Complex. He later completed his secondary education at Kumasi Academy, where he developed an interest in music and dancing.
The Creative Arts and Design subject is a new addition to the Common Core Programme (CCP) level in Ghanaian education. It is a multidisciplinary subject that comprises design, visual arts, music, dance, and drama. The subject aims to provide students with opportunities for self-exploration, self-expression, and building mental focus, among other skills.
The 2024 BECE examination started on Monday, July 8, 2024, and will end on Monday, July 15, 2024.
