Basketmouth Reveals Reason Behind Wizkid Shade
- Basketmouth reveals his shade at Wizkid was a marketing technique to generate buzz
- He intentionally made an edgy comment to ruffle feathers and get a reaction
- The comedian's strategy worked, getting people upset and talking about his Canadian tour
Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has clarified the reasoning behind his recent shade at Afrobeat star Wizkid.
Speaking on “Backstage Banter with Isi Ijewere” during the Toronto stop of his Canadian tour, Basketmouth explained that his comment was merely a marketing technique aimed at generating buzz.
“Wizkid is my guy…that was a marketing technique. But I knew it was going to be edgy,” Basketmouth said. “I knew it was going to hit people. I knew they were going to get upset and they did exactly what I wanted them to do. It worked.”
The comedian’s initial comment, made during Davido and Chioma’s highly publicized wedding on June 25, had sparked outrage among Wizkid fans, who threatened to “cancel” him.
However, Basketmouth maintains that his intention was simply to ruffle some feathers and generate attention for his Canadian tour, which he struggled to promote amidst the hype surrounding Davido’s wedding.
