The Asikasu Community in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region has benefited from a mechanized borehole project worth 49,000 Cedis. The project was executed by the Renton Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Washington DC, USA, and Ubucor Construction Limited, under the supervision of the East Ghana Conference of the SDA Church.
The community, which has a population of over 500 residents, has lacked access to potable water for years. The only source of water, the Asikasu stream, has been destroyed due to ongoing road construction in the area.
The mechanized borehole project aims to address the water challenges faced by the community and its adjoining areas. Pastor Dr. Samuel Bonya Arloo, President of the East Ghana Conference of the SDA Church, emphasized the importance of the project in solving the water crisis.
Elijah Davis, Ghana Coordinator of Ubucor Construction Company Limited, explained that the company has a collaboration with the Renton SDA Church to construct 200 boreholes in African countries, starting with Ghana. He noted that the project was initiated after a request from Pastor Patrick Nyarnor, who wrote a proposal for the execution of the project.
The Oyoko District Pastor of the SDA Church, Pastor Patrick Nyarnor, expressed gratitude to the Renton SDA Church and Ubucor Construction Limited for their support. He explained how the community got the attention of the Ubucor Construction Company, leading to the execution of the project.
The Chief of Asikasu Number One, Nene Komlorm Tettey, commended the Renton SDA Church and appealed to other benevolent organizations, NGOs, and government agencies to support the community. He requested assistance in stocking their CHPS compound with medical equipment and drugs to ensure access to quality healthcare.
The mechanized borehole project has brought relief to the community, which previously relied on an unsafe stream for water. The project’s commissioning and handing-over ceremony was attended by community members, church leaders, and officials from Ubucor Construction Limited.
The Renton SDA Church and Ubucor Construction Limited have demonstrated their commitment to improving access to potable water in rural communities. The project serves as a model for collaborative efforts between religious organizations, construction companies, and local communities.
