Over 11,000 to join Ghana’s Security Agencies as Backlog is Cleared

Story Highlights
  • The recruitment focuses on processing applications already submitted
  • Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana Prisons Service are among those receiving new personnel
  • The initiative is backed by financial clearance

Government sources within the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Finance have confirmed that the recruitment of 11,000 personnel across various security agencies has commenced.

Financial clearance has been secured for this purpose, marking a significant move to address the backlog of applicants who previously applied to join these agencies.

Unlike previous practices, there will be no public advertisements calling for new applications, as this recruitment drive focuses solely on clearing existing applicant backlogs.

The Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana Prisons Service are among those instructed to onboard new personnel, with specific targets set for each agency.

Interior Minister Henry Quartey addressed concerns regarding transparency, clarifying that while no secret recruitment is underway, the process aims to formalize existing applications.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Akufo-Addo government to bolster security forces, having already recruited over 26,000 youth into various agencies since 2017.

In addition to personnel, substantial investments have been made in logistics such as vehicles and communication equipment, as well as accommodations, to enhance operational effectiveness across the board.
