  • Debate decision lies with campaign team leaders.

The John Mahama Campaign Team has dismissed calls for a pre-election debate between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the spokesperson for the Mahama Campaign Team, rejected the idea of a debate, citing the current state of the government’s performance as rendering it unnecessary.

Despite appeals from political analysts and other stakeholders, Bawah Mogtari expressed supreme confidence in John Mahama’s ability to outshine any presidential aspirant in a debate. She praised Mahama’s exceptional energy and vast knowledge, implying that a debate would only serve to further highlight his superiority, making it an unnecessary endeavor at this point.

Bawah Mogtari stated that she personally has no appetite for a debate, suggesting that debates are only necessary when the issues are parallel, which is not the case in this election. She emphasized that the decision to participate in a debate ultimately lies with the “upper people” in the campaign team, leaving room for possible future consideration.

Bawah Mogtari referenced the previous debates between John Mahama and then-candidate Akufo-Addo, hinting at Mahama’s proven track record of success in debates. She expressed her belief that Mahama’s energy and knowledge are unparalleled, and he would emerge victorious in any debate.

However, she reiterated that a debate is not necessary at this point, suggesting that the current administration’s failings are evident and do not require a debate to prove. The Mahama Campaign Team has rejected calls for a pre-election debate, expressing confidence in Mahama’s abilities and citing the government’s performance as rendering a debate unnecessary.
