Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, is scheduled for official introduction as the running mate alongside Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The ceremony will take place today, July 9, in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the NPP.
NAPO’s endorsement by the National Council of the NPP on July 5 has been met with enthusiasm, particularly in Ashanti Region, where the event is highly anticipated according to Francis Adomako, the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Organiser.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other top party officials have expressed confidence in NAPO and Dr. Bawumia’s leadership capabilities ahead of the 2024 elections.
In a statement, NAPO expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for the opportunity and affirmed his dedication to securing victory for the NPP.
The NPP has defended NAPO against criticism, emphasizing his suitability for the role despite some controversy.
Additionally, nominations for the Manhyia South constituency have opened following NAPO’s new role, leaving his parliamentary seat vacant.
With preparations underway, the stage is set for a competitive 2024 presidential election, with the NPP’s Bawumia-NAPO ticket poised against the National Democratic Congress’ Mahama-Opoku-Agyemang duo.
