“My Lowest Paycheck as an Actor was GH₵4,000” – Adjetey Anang

Renowned Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang, has made a surprising revelation about his lowest salary in the film industry. In an interview on 3FM Lounge on Monday, July 8, Anang disclosed that he received a meager GH₵4,000 in 2018 for his role in a movie that would later earn him his first Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) best actor award.

Speaking to AJ Sarpong, Anang emphasized that his decision to feature in the movie was not motivated by financial gain, but rather his belief in the content. “I’m talking of 2018. No, I’m not joking. You see, it was one that I had believed in the content, and that actually brought me my first AMVCA best actor award,” he said.

The acclaimed actor also shared valuable insights on producing movies that appeal to the Ghanaian audience and lamented about the challenges he has faced in the industry, including low budgets and inadequate character development. “Well, lack of character development is an issue, but because of my experience, I’m able to hold it. It’s an issue, but there’s always a way out. More so, the text when you realise there have not been more research because whatever we put out there is going to have implications on the audience,” he added.

Anang’s latest movie, ‘The Groomsmen’, is set to premiere on Friday, July 12 at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra Mall.
