In a disturbing Instagram video, Modise revealed she was held at gunpoint by assailants who stole her phone, car keys, and vehicle.

The Portia Modise Foundation confirmed the retired footballer, a national hero for being the first African woman to score 100 international goals, is shaken but unharmed.

“I arrived home and a few guys pointed guns at me. They hijacked me,” said Modise in the video. “I’m not okay, but I’m grateful to be alive.”

The 41-year-old appealed to the public for help in finding her car, a blue Volkswagen Polo Golf.

The incident has sparked an outpouring of support for Modise online, with fans offering well wishes and sharing the video in hopes of recovering the stolen vehicle.

This event comes just months after the tragic carjacking death of young footballer Luke Fleurs in Johannesburg. Modise’s experience serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing safety concerns in South Africa.
