“EC Chair Vows to Collaborate with Security Agencies for Secure and Transparent Elections”

The Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to ensure free and transparent elections. Speaking at a meeting with the national election security task force, Mensa acknowledged the successful partnership between the EC and security agencies, particularly the police.

Mensa praised the police for providing security at all registration centers and for mobile teams during the limited registration exercise. She expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support received from the security agencies, led by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akuffo Dampare.

The EC chair noted that all electoral activities ahead of the 2024 general elections have been inclusive, with citizens who wished to register able to do so. She attributed this success to the cooperation between the EC and security agencies.

Mensa pledged the EC’s continued commitment to working with security agencies to achieve their shared objective of ensuring free and transparent elections. She recognized the critical role of security agencies in maintaining peace and stability during the electoral process.

The EC announced a mop-up voter registration exercise from August 1 to August 3, 2024, for persons who missed the limited registration exercise or turned 18 after the registration period. This exercise will be followed by a voter exhibition from August 20 to August 27.

The mop-up registration aims to afford eligible citizens the opportunity to register and participate in the electoral process. The EC and security agencies are committed to ensuring the success of this exercise.

The debriefing meeting between the EC and the Election Security Taskforce reviewed the task force’s performance in the first half of the year. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
