The Minnesota Vikings are mourning the loss of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, who died in a car crash early Saturday morning at the age of 24.

Jackson, along with two of his former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr., were killed when their vehicle collided with another car in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Police reports indicate the crash occurred when the other vehicle attempted a high-speed lane change.

“I am absolutely devastated by this news,” said Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. “Khyree’s positive energy was infectious, both in our facilities and on the field. His confidence and personality drew everyone in. It was clear in the short time we knew him that Khyree had the potential to be an outstanding football player, but even more importantly, he aspired to be the best person he could be for his loved ones and those around him.”

The Vikings released a statement expressing their profound grief: “We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following an overnight car accident. Our deepest condolences go out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everyone affected by this tragic accident.”

Drafted by the Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL Draft this year, Jackson had not yet played in a regular-season game.
