Nana Akomea, Deputy Campaign Chair of the Bawumia campaign team, has clarified that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s selection as running mate was not based on his regional background but rather on his impressive work record.

Akomea emphasized that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s performance as Minister of Education and Energy, as well as his personal qualities, made him an ideal choice for the position. He noted that while the NPP expects significant support from the Ashanti Region, the primary focus was on selecting a candidate with the right qualities, not just regional representation.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also expressed confidence in the Bawumia-Opoku Prempeh ticket, stating that it is an “excellent” combination that will lead the NPP to victory in the 2024 elections.

The President’s endorsement came after the NPP’s National Council unanimously approved Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s selection as running mate. Dr. Bawumia thanked the National Council for their support and praised Dr. Opoku Prempeh as an “astute and brilliant” leader.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to work tirelessly with Dr. Bawumia to secure a decisive victory for the NPP.
