Two footballers from Moroccan top-flight club Ittihad Tanger, Salman Harraq and Abdellatif Akhrif, have been missing at sea since Saturday.

Club officials report that strong currents and heavy winds swept their yacht away from the shore while the players were swimming near Tangier. Three other players were rescued on Saturday, but the search continues for Harraq and Akhrif.

According to Ittihad Tanger’s deputy president, Anass Mrabet, the players were not wearing life buoys when they jumped into the water. Akhrif, 24, is a current member of the senior squad, while Harraq, 18, was expected to join this year.

Ittihad Tanger, established in the top division since 2015 with a league title win in 2017-18, has faced challenges in recent seasons.
