Mahama: No New Stadium Promise Amidst Economic Crisis

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, has addressed the state of Ghana’s sports infrastructure, acknowledging that the country currently lacks a world-class category A stadium.

In a conversation with journalists on Sunday night, Mahama was questioned about his plans to address this issue if elected in December’s General Elections.

While he refrained from promising a new stadium amidst the current economic crisis, he hinted at the possibility of allocating funds for sports facilities, including a stadium, under the “big push” initiative, which aims to invest in infrastructure development over five years.

Mahama emphasized that the allocation of funds would depend on various factors, including roads, bridges, and agro-industrial parks.

Currently, only the Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Stadium, built for the 2023 African Games, are in good condition to host major multi-sports competitions.
