Former Presbyterian Moderator Urges Ghanaians to Prioritize Competent and Honest Leadership

Very Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has called on Ghanaians to elect leaders who demonstrate both competence and sincerity in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.

Speaking at the 2nd Annual Heritage Lecture Series held at the Presbyterian College of Education in Akropong Akuapem, Rev. Prof. Mante stressed the importance of avoiding candidates who rely on empty promises without the necessary integrity and capability to lead effectively.

He emphasized the need for voters to thoroughly assess the track records of presidential hopefuls to ensure informed decision-making. Rev. Prof. Mante underscored that true democracy requires vigilant scrutiny of elected leaders, urging against post-election protests as a means of expressing dissatisfaction.

In his address, he urged Ghanaians to reject falsehoods and deceitful assurances, advocating instead for the election of trustworthy and skilled individuals to steer the nation forward.

The occasion also featured a lecture by Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Former General Secretary of the Ghana Peace Council, who spoke on fostering unity amidst Ghana’s cultural diversity. He called on politicians to refrain from exploiting cultural differences for divisive purposes.

Rt. Rev. Nana Opare Kwakye, current Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, explained the decision to name a new Multipurpose Office Complex after Rev. Prof. Mante, citing his exemplary service and significant contributions to both the College and the Church.
