Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, affirms Ghana Police Service’s preparedness to oversee security operations throughout the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Speaking at the Alisa Hotel in Accra during a session with the eminent group convened by the Christian Council of Ghana, Dr Dampare assured that the police, alongside other security agencies within the National Election Security Task Force, have solidified election security measures over recent years.
This strategic approach aims to ensure peaceful and secure elections, treating local elections with national significance.
Highlighting the proactive stance taken by the police, Dr Dampare emphasized the transformation of election security into an institutionalized process rather than just an event. He reiterated, “We have been prepared for years by embedding election security into the fabric of our operations. Elections are now seen as a continuous cycle rather than isolated events.”
Reflecting on recent successful elections, including internal party polls, Dr Dampare underscored the collective effort involving security forces and patriotic citizens committed to maintaining peace in Ghana. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and a de-escalation approach in resolving conflicts, aimed at ensuring sustainable peace for future generations.
“As we approach the 2024 elections, our focus remains on de-escalation amidst any tensions or disputes. It’s crucial that we handle issues professionally to foster unity among conflicting parties,” he concluded.
