Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group, has significantly escalated tensions by launching over 200 rockets and drones into northern Israel.
This comes in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike that killed a senior Hezbollah commander, Mohammed Nimah Nasser.
The Israeli military confirmed one soldier’s death from the rocket barrage and reported targeting Hezbollah facilities in southern Lebanon in response. Lebanese media claims an Israeli drone strike in Houla killed one civilian.
This intense exchange follows a similar attack on Wednesday with 100 rockets. These events mark some of the most significant clashes in the nine-month period of cross-border violence, raising serious concerns about a potential full-blown war.
Hezbollah Commander’s Death Sparks Retaliation
Nasser, the slain Hezbollah leader, was reportedly a highly influential figure within the organization. The Israeli military accused him of leading a unit responsible for rocket attacks and overseeing numerous “terror attacks.”
Nasser’s death echoes the killing of another Hezbollah commander, Taleb Sami Abdullah, last month. That incident also triggered a major rocket attack by Hezbollah.
The escalating violence underscores the fragile situation on the Israel-Lebanon border.
