West Ham are inching closer to securing the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman. After having a £25m bid rejected last month, the Hammers have upped their offer to a reported £40m, which seems to be enough to convince Wolves to part ways with their leader.
This move brings Kilman back together with his former manager Julen Lopetegui, who recently took the helm at West Ham after David Moyes’ departure.
West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten hinted at a busy transfer window earlier this week, and the club seems to be making good on that promise. Financial backing shouldn’t be an issue either, considering the significant income generated from Declan Rice’s £105m transfer last summer.
Kilman, a 27-year-old center-back, joined Wolves in 2018 from Maidenhead United. It took him until May 2019 to make his debut for the Premier League club. Interestingly, this transfer will also see Maidenhead United benefit. Due to a sell-on clause negotiated down to 10% (originally 20%), they stand to receive around £4m from the deal.
