In a devastating incident in Latutu, Akyem Tontro, a young man in his early 20s was discovered hanging from a cocoa tree.
The deceased, who had recently arrived in the community with his father from Sefwi, Ghana, is suspected to have taken his own life shortly after his father departed for Somanya.
According to reports, the young man left the house on Wednesday morning dressed neatly with his bag. His body was later found that evening around 5:00 PM by Emmanuel Abayatey, a renowned local farmer, in his cocoa farm.
The tragic scene involved the young man using a makeshift method involving a sponge tied to a cocoa tree branch and standing on a gallon to hang himself.
Stephen Tetteh, the Assemblyman for Osiem-Afigya Electoral Area, confirmed the incident and noted the arrival of a Police Criminal Investigation officer from Tafo District Police Command to investigate.
Expressing concern over logistical challenges, Tetteh highlighted the difficulties in transporting the body to Akyem Tafo Government Hospital mortuary for further procedures. The police investigation continues as they seek to uncover the reasons behind the young man’s untimely death, as no note was left behind.
