Ghanaian Social Media Sensation Shatta Bandle Issues Apology to Nigerians and EFCC Following Controversial Money Spraying Incident at Mr Ibu’s Funeral

Diminutive Ghanaian internet personality Shatta Bandle has issued a formal apology to Nigerians and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after a video surfaced showing him spraying money at the funeral of Nigerian actor Mr Ibu in Lagos.

Firdaus Iddrisu, popularly known as Shatta Bandle, attended the funeral of John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu, held in Amuri, Enugu State on Friday, June 28, 2024. Videos circulating on social media captured him energetically showering cash during the event.

Such actions are considered offensive by the EFCC, who view them as undermining the integrity of the Nigerian currency.

In a video shared on social media on July 3, 2024, Shatta Bandle expressed remorse for his actions and sought forgiveness from Nigerians and the EFCC.

“I apologize for my behavior at Mr Ibu’s funeral. It was not my intention to disrespect any rules or offend anyone. I was spraying dollars initially, but when I ran out, I mistakenly sprayed Naira. Please forgive me,” he stated.

The EFCC has previously cautioned against activities such as spraying, dancing on, or defacing the Nigerian currency during social gatherings, warning of potential legal consequences including fines and imprisonment.
