The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Council has given its stamp of approval to the decision by flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to choose Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the upcoming elections.
The endorsement came on Thursday after a series of meetings with the National Executive Council and the National Steering Committee of the party. Opoku Prempeh, fondly referred to as NAPO, is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and a former Education Minister.His selection as running mate is seen as a strategic move by Bawumia to consolidate support within the party and across the country, particularly in the Ashanti region.
The Ashanti region is a key constituency for the NPP, and NAPO’s inclusion on the ticket is expected to boost the party’s chances in the region.
