NIA Staff Petition President Akufo-Addo to Sack Prof. Attafuah
- The NIA division has cited serious concerns regarding Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah's alleged violations of labor laws
- The petition, signed by 920 staff members, underscores a widespread loss of trust in Prof. Attafuah's leadership
- The division has formally requested President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Prof. Attafuah from his position
The National Identification Authority (NIA) division of the Public Services Workers Union under the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana has formally requested President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah from his position as Executive Secretary of the NIA.
In a petition dated July 1, the division cited unanimous support from the majority of NIA staff in calling for Prof. Attafuah’s dismissal, emphasizing concerns over alleged violations of labor laws, discrepancies in Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) regulations, inadequate corporate governance, and perceived unfairness in staff recruitment, placement, and promotion.
The petition, signed by 920 staff members, highlighted that the decision to petition the President stemmed from a breakdown of trust in Prof. Attafuah’s leadership, which they believe undermines the authority’s operational integrity and could further tarnish its reputation if left unchecked.
“The staff and union’s decision to petition your high office for the removal of Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah is grounded on unfair labor practices contrary to the labor laws and Human Resource Manual and Policy Framework for Ghana Public Services, violations of SSNIT law, poor corporate governance structure, selective and administrative injustice in the recruitment, placement and promotion of staff and lack of innovative ideas to manage the administration of the authority,” it stated.
The division expressed concerns that Prof Attafuah’s continued tenure could lead to further harm and reputational damage to the authority.
“His staff have absolutely lost trust in his administration and can no longer work with him in confidence. These coupled with infractions in the labor laws and SSNIT Acts are enough justifications for his immediate removal from the office without further delays,” it stated.
The division believes that Prof Attafuah’s dismissal would restore staff confidence and improve the authority’s reputation.
