The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has launched a new nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive, intensifying efforts to protect citizens against the virus. The five-day exercise, which began on July 3, aims to administer approximately half a million doses of vaccine across various regions in the country.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at GHS, confirmed the exercise to TV3, emphasizing the importance of periodic intensification of the vaccination drive. While COVID-19 vaccination is now a routine service at all health centers, the country still records cases, making it essential for eligible individuals to get vaccinated.

The ongoing exercise is a crucial step in maintaining the country’s progress in combating the pandemic. The GHS urges all eligible persons to take advantage of the exercise and get their jab. Only Johnson and Johnson vaccines are being administered during this exercise.

The vaccination drive is a collaborative effort between the GHS, the Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders. Healthcare workers and volunteers have been deployed to various vaccination centers to ensure a smooth and efficient process.

The exercise targets individuals who have not yet received their first dose, as well as those due for their second dose. The GHS emphasizes that vaccination is essential for both personal protection and community immunity.

Ghana has made significant progress in its COVID-19 vaccination campaign, with a substantial percentage of the population already vaccinated. However, the country still records cases, and the GHS is determined to maintain the momentum and ensure that everyone has access to the vaccine.

The GHS assures the public that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine being used is safe and effective. The vaccine has undergone rigorous testing and has been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other regulatory agencies.

The vaccination exercise is being conducted in various locations, including health centers, hospitals, and designated vaccination sites. The GHS has ensured that adequate vaccine doses are available to meet the demand.

The GHS encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to get vaccinated and protect themselves and their loved ones against COVID-19. By doing so, Ghana can maintain its progress in combating the pandemic and move closer to a safer future.

The exercise will end on July 7, and the GHS urges all eligible persons to participate and get their jab before the deadline. Let’s work together to keep Ghana safe from COVID-19!
