Annette Addo-Yobo was crowned Miss Texas 2024 on Saturday night at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts, marking a historic milestone as the first immigrant-born and Ghanaian winner of the prestigious title.
Competing as Miss Southlake, Addo-Yobo triumphed over strong competition, earning the honor and a $20,000 scholarship. She will represent Texas in the Miss America contest, leveraging her platform to raise autism awareness, a cause close to her heart.
Born in Ghana and raised in Canada and the U.S., Addo-Yobo overcame citizenship status challenges, becoming a U.S. citizen in 2022. “I’m humbled, honoured, and grateful to be the 87th Miss Texas,” she expressed in an Instagram post, looking forward to “continuing to make history with the Texas community and the Miss Texas class.”
Addo-Yobo’s victory celebrates her personal achievements and paves the way for a diverse and inclusive future in the Miss Texas pageant. As she said, “I want to bring autism safety, awareness, and education to the frontlines of our programming and our legislation.” Her dedication to this cause is inspired by her younger brother Andrew’s journey with autism.
