  • Cause of accident under investigation.

A devastating accident occurred on the Tema to Accra stretch of the Motorway early yesterday morning, causing chaos and gridlock on the busy highway. A truck registered in Burkina Faso, carrying a cargo of Oba Spaghetti cartons, overturned near the KICC, spilling its contents onto the roadside and blocking one lane of the two-lane road.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred around 5:10 am, a time when the road is usually relatively free of traffic. Christian Atsu Tsikata who witnessed the incident, described the scene as “chaotic” and “unusual” for that time of day.

Tsikata expressed concern that the traffic situation would only worsen as the day progressed, as the truck would need to be towed and the scattered cargo cleared from the road, causing further delays. The early morning rain, which is common during this time of year, is expected to exacerbate the traffic situation, making it even more challenging for commuters to navigate the stretch.

The accident has already caused significant disruptions to the morning commute, with many motorists forced to take alternative routes or wait patiently in traffic. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist in clearing the wreckage and restoring order to the highway.

The cause of the accident is still unknown and is currently under investigation by authorities. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance on our highways to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
