“Transparent and Fair Election is My Priority”- Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has pledged to ensure a transparent, free, and fair general election in 2024, without violence. He cautioned those plotting to foment trouble to reconsider, stressing that his government would not tolerate any act of violence.

The President made these remarks during the Bakatue Festival in Elmina, where he joined the chiefs and people to mark the official commencement of the festival. He emphasized Ghana’s global reputation as a beacon of democracy and urged citizens to protect that legacy by ensuring a peaceful election.

“We are going to elect a leader; we are not going for war,” he stated. “The election will be transparent and fair, and the verdict will be accepted by all, regardless of who wins or loses.”

The President’s participation in the festival was historic, marking the first time a Ghanaian President has attended the event. He was treated to a regatta, traditional songs, and dances by enthusiastic local fishermen and women groups.

President Akufo-Addo commended the chiefs and people of Elmina for protecting and improving their cultural heritage and promised to desilt the choked Benya Lagoon and provide a bus to the Edinaman Senior High School. He also appealed to the people to vote for the NPP candidate in the upcoming election.

The Omanhen of the Edina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, expressed gratitude to the President for his attention to Elmina’s development and appealed for a fund to support festivals in Ghana. The President promised to consider the appeal and engage the sector minister on the issue of Saiko.
