Tragedy In Colorado: House Fire Claims Lives, Sentence Leaves Family Unsatisfied
- A Colorado man faces a lengthy prison sentence
- The fire claimed the lives of 5 family members
- The perpetrator, Kevin Bui pleaded guilty
A Colorado man faces a lengthy prison sentence after a house fire he ignited tragically claimed the lives of five members of a Senegalese family. The incident has left the victims’ loved ones devastated, questioning the adequacy of the punishment.
A relative of the deceased, Amadou Beye, expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the 60-year sentence. “It’s simply not enough,” he said. “The pain will never truly leave me. It feels like they’re asking me to relive the suffering every time I think about 60 years for someone who took five lives. While I can’t change it, I have faith that true justice will eventually prevail.” He continued, “This sentence may not feel like justice, and I don’t feel grateful for it, but I will respect it.”
The perpetrator, Kevin Bui, now 20 years old, was the last of three teenagers charged in connection with the August 5th, 2020 fire. He pleaded guilty to reduced charges in a plea deal. Authorities allege that Bui, recently robbed during an attempted gun purchase, mistakenly believed his stolen phone was located at the targeted residence. This reportedly fueled a meticulously planned act of revenge, tragically targeting the wrong victims.
Bui’s defense attorney, Rachel Lanzen, attempted to shift blame to another individual involved in the incident. However, law enforcement maintains that Bui himself admitted to starting the fire, even sustaining burns during the act.
