The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred today, July 2, 2024, in Barniekrom near Mankranso, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.
According to a police statement, the suspect, Osman Majeed, allegedly claimed that the victims were part of a group that had come to attack him. A police team responded promptly to the scene, retrieving evidence including a motorbike, eight spent cartridges, and four cutlasses. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The police are urging members of the community to remain calm as they work to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large. “We wish to urge members of the community to remain calm as the investigation into the incident continues to get the perpetrator arrested to face justice,” the police stated.
In a separate incident, the police are investigating the tragic deaths of two children in Kakpayili, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region. The bodies of the three-year-old boys were discovered on June 30, 2024, in an abandoned vehicle within the Kakpayili community, after being reported missing on June 25, 2024.
The decomposed bodies have been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy. The discovery has sparked shock and suspicion among local residents, with many suspecting foul play, possibly for ritual purposes.
The Assemblyman for the Kakpayili Electoral area, Hafiz Andani, confirmed that the children had been missing since June 22, and a formal complaint was filed with the police on June 25 after efforts to find them proved unsuccessful.
