Ghanaian defender Nathaniel Adjei bid a heartfelt goodbye to Hammarby IF on social media after his permanent transfer to French club FC Lorient.

Adjei, who arrived from Ghana’s Division One League two and a half years ago, leaves Hammarby as their record outgoing transfer, with a move valued at over €5 million. He made 32 appearances and scored once for the Swedish club before a loan spell at Lorient in January 2024.

Though unable to prevent Lorient’s relegation, his 15 appearances convinced them to activate the purchase option in his loan deal.

Adjei’s message expressed his gratitude to Hammarby for giving him his European springboard:

  • He highlighted his ambition to contribute to the club’s growth.
  • He acknowledged both positive and challenging experiences during his time there.
  • He expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of the fans, especially during difficult times.
  • He cherished the opportunity to play and celebrate at the Tele2Arena with the passionate supporters.
  • He concluded by thanking his teammates, staff, and everyone who believed in him.
