Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed confidence in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) prospects of winning the December 7, 2024 elections, particularly in the Central Region. Afenyo-Markin assured that the NPP is poised to secure not less than 14 seats in the Central Region, citing the party’s robust efforts and strategic planning as decisive factors.

He made this declaration during an interview with Yen Nsempa host, Nana Yaa Brefo on July 3, stating, “Mark this down, NPP will get not less than 14 seats in the Central Region.” Afenyo-Markin reiterated his prediction, saying, “I said in December, God-willing, NPP will get not less than 14 seats. Come December 2024, NPP will get not less than 14 seats in the Central Region.”

He underscored the NPP’s commitment to hard work and thorough preparation in achieving this electoral goal, emphasizing that the party will explain its policies to the people and work diligently to ensure victory. Afenyo-Markin highlighted the importance of unity, prayers, and strategic planning, stating, “It will all be hard work, prayers, guided and calculated steps.”

Reflecting on the 2020 general election outcomes, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the NPP’s loss of nine parliamentary seats to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which secured 13 out of the Region’s 23 seats. He addressed concerns over unity within the party, noting that internal conflicts led to losses in the previous election, but urged NPP members and supporters to unite towards “ending the eight-year ruling cycle.”

Afenyo-Markin emphasized the strategic importance of a unified front in achieving electoral success, encouraging party members to work together towards victory. Afenyo-Markin’s prediction and the NPP’s strategic planning and hard work may boost the party’s chances in the Central Region, but the outcome ultimately depends on various factors, including voter turnout and the opposition’s performance.
