Wimbledon Farewell In Doubt: Murray Makes Late Fitness Call
- Andy faces a late fitness test
- Andy is scheduled to play Tomas Machac
- While Murray is pushing for closure
Andy Murray, the 37-year-old British tennis legend, faces a late fitness test to determine his participation in the Wimbledon singles on Tuesday.
Murray is scheduled to play Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic in a potentially emotional farewell match, as he plans to retire later this year. However, a cyst removal on his back nine days ago has left him uncertain about his physical ability to compete.
The two-time Wimbledon champion is giving himself every chance to be ready. He practiced on Monday with Kyle Edmund and displayed promising progress. However, a final decision on whether his leg has recovered sufficiently will be made on Tuesday after consulting with his team and family.
While Murray is pushing for closure on his illustrious career at the All England Club, he acknowledges the need to be fully prepared. “It’s getting better and the testing I’ve done has been good,” he said. “I just need to decide whether it’s enough to compete.”
If deemed unfit for singles, Murray could still participate in the doubles tournament alongside his brother Jamie later in the week.
