South Africa: Lion Sighting Sparks Fear in Matsulu

Residents of Matsulu, located in eastern Mbombela, Mpumalanga, are gripped with fear following a recent lion sighting in their area last Friday.

Over the weekend, locals discovered the carcass of a cow in nearby bushes, suspected to be the lion’s prey.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) swiftly deployed its Damage Causing Animals (DCA) team to capture and relocate the lion back to its habitat in the neighboring Kruger National Park.

Mduduzi Vilakazi, CEO of MTPA, emphasized the agency’s proactive approach: “We have dispatched a team specifically trained in managing wildlife incidents to safely capture and return the animal. Our workshops in Matsulu have educated residents on proper protocols during such encounters.”
