Blue Ocean LPG Bottling Plant has partnered with Puma Energy Ghana to support the government’s clean cooking initiative and safe transportation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The partnership aims to distribute over 15,000 cylinders to local communities by December 2024, with over 1,025 cylinders already distributed to six communities.
The initiative seeks to transition low-income households from traditional fuels like wood and charcoal to cleaner, more efficient LPG. According to the Ghana Statistical Services’ 2022 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (GDHS) report, only 25% of households in Ghana use clean fuel and technologies for cooking, with the government aiming to reach a 50% penetration target by 2030.
Zwelithini Mlotshwa, General Manager of Puma Energy Ghana, emphasized the value of the partnership, stating, “We are committed to enabling access to clean cooking to improve the well-being of unserved communities. By reducing household reliance on harmful traditional cooking fuels, we can make a positive impact on both people’s health and the environment.”
Michael S. Kyeremanteng, Operations Manager of Blue Ocean LPG Bottling Plant, highlighted the plant’s safety and accessibility features, stating, “The plant guarantees safety and accessibility, making it possible to implement the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) project.”
The partnership aligns with the National Petroleum Authority’s (NPA) Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) project and the Puma Energy Clean Cooking Initiative, which seeks to drive access to affordable, accessible, and clean cooking alternatives in low-income African communities.
