The Achimota Circuit Court has handed a five-year prison sentence to Collins Acquah, a former Assistant Manager of Chicken Inn and Pizza Inn, for stealing GH₵199,040.00 from his former employer. Acquah, 29, was captured on CCTV stealing the money on December 27, 2023, at the Accra Mall branch of the restaurant.
After initially pleading not guilty, Acquah changed his plea to guilty and was convicted and sentenced accordingly. However, he refused to disclose the whereabouts of the stolen money.
The Court, presided over by Akosua Anokyewaa Adjapong, ordered Acquah to pay a fine of GH₵1,200.00 or serve an additional two years in default. He was also ordered to refund the stolen amount to his former employer.
The Court considered Acquah’s age, being a first-time offender, and show of remorse in sentencing. The prosecution told the Court that Acquah had access to the vault room and stole the money during the Christmas holidays.
He was caught on CCTV camera and later arrested after going into hiding in Cape Coast.
