Arsenal have secured a major signing with the arrival of Spanish forward Mariona Caldentey from Barcelona.

The 28-year-old brings a wealth of experience and trophy success to the Gunners, having won a staggering six Liga F titles, three Champions Leagues, and six Spanish Cups with Barcelona.

Her impressive goalscoring record of 114 goals in 302 appearances for the Catalan giants cements her place as Barcelona’s fifth all-time top scorer.

Caldentey’s pedigree extends beyond club football. She played a pivotal role in Spain’s historic World Cup victory in Australia last year, defeating England in the final to claim their first ever major women’s title.

“I’m incredibly excited about what Arsenal are building, both on and off the pitch,” Caldentey expressed. “The attacking style of play and the strong mentality the team is developing were huge factors in my decision.”

She continued, “The incredible fan support and the records being broken are truly inspiring. I can’t wait to join the team and contribute to winning trophies and entertaining the fans.”

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall echoed the enthusiasm, stating, “Mariona is a world-class forward, and we’re thrilled to have her at Arsenal. Her winning mentality and experience on the biggest stages perfectly align with our ambitions for the club.”

Caldentey adds firepower to the Arsenal attack, boasting 26 goals in 72 appearances for Spain, including their recent Nations League victory in 2023-24.

This signing comes amidst the departure of Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema, who will be joining rivals Manchester City. Arsenal are also reportedly interested in strengthening other areas of the squad, with names like Aston Villa goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar and England midfielder Fran Kirby linked to the club.
