- Fire guts popular pub and two beauty parlors in Abeka, Accra
- Eyewitnesses suspect electrical fault as the possible cause of the blaze
- Firefighters struggled to put out the fire due to exposed electrical wires
A devastating fire swept through a popular pub at Eno Mirekua, near the Abeka market in Accra, in the early hours of Monday, July 1, 2024. The blaze also destroyed two adjacent beauty parlors, leaving the owners in distress.
Eyewitnesses suspect an electrical fault may have sparked the inferno, which was reported around 6:00 a.m. Bright Asante, an eyewitness, recounted, “I saw the fire while fetching water and alerted others to help put it out. We called the Fire Service, and I believe it was caused by an electrical fault.”
The owner of one of the affected beauty parlors lamented, “All my equipment and dryers were destroyed. I don’t know how I’ll survive and start again.”
The Ghana National Fire Service team responded promptly but struggled to extinguish the fire due to exposed electrical wires in the pub. ADO1 Helegbe from the Circle branch explained, “We arrived at 0631 hours and found the situation challenging due to the strong electricity presence. We had to wait for the ECG to turn off the power before we could salvage the situation.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
